Accomplishments as a Weld County Commissioner

  • Continually advocate for and vote to approve balanced Weld County budgets that keep Weld County the only debt-free county in the state of Colorado with no county sales tax and one of the lowest mill levies in the state of 22.038 mills.
  • Advocated for and voted to approve a 7 mill property tax rebate for Weld County tax payers in 2019, 2020, and 2021. Since the practice of this rebate began, Weld County has returned nearly $1 billion to taxpayers.
  • Advocated for a voted to approve actions that fund Weld County’s retirement fund at 110% based on just a 5.8% assumed return.
  • Advocate for and represent Weld County in the transportation arena by serving as Chairman of the Upper Front Range Transportation Planning Region, Vice Chairman of the North Front Range Metroplitan Planning Organization, as a member of the Statewide Transportation Advisory Committee, and as a member of the Freight Advisory Council.
  • Advocated for and voted to approve an extensive update of Weld County’s Comprehensive Plan, inclusive of new Opportunity Zones and a new Comprehensive Land Use Map.
  • Advocated for and voted to approve a comprehensive county code overhaul of Chapter 23, Zoning, and Chapter 24, Subdivisions to make land use development more predictable and certain for Weld County property owners.
  • Voted to approve a resolution declaring Weld County a Second Amendment Sanctuary County.
  • Advocated for and voted to approve the creation of the Oil and Gas Energy Department in Weld County, ensuring Weld County stays at the forefront of fostering the development of our natural resources and remaining the top oil and gas producing county in the state of Colorado.
  • Advocated for and voted to approve an extensive update of Weld County’s solar development codes, paving the way for landowners and solar developers to ensure Weld County continues to be the number one county for renewable energy production in Colorado.

  • Initiated, advocated, and voted for the construction of the Johnstown Community YMCA without adding any debt or increasing sales tax.
  • Advocated for and voted to add sworn officers to the Johnstown Police Department.
  • Led the initiative to open a Johnstown Police Annex at 2534/Johnstown Plaza.
  • Led Johnstown from a $13 million debt to an over $80 million surplus.
  • Voted to refer a 5 mil property tax decrease to the voters.
