BISHOP WELL INCIDENT UPDATE

Recovery is underway near Bishop Well, with cleanup starting at homes and Galeton Elementary. Safety remains our top priority.

Recovery efforts began today, April 12, 2025, around the Bishop Well site in Galeton, CO, starting with cleanup efforts in the periphery of the affected area, including Galeton Elementary School and evacuated homes.

The safety of our neighbors, workers and environment remains our top priority, and we are currently evaluating when it will be safe for people to return home.

Outreach to affected community members continues and additional information on livestock issues has been posted on Weld County’s Bishop Well incident web page.

Specific ongoing recovery activities include:

  • Air monitoring 
  • Surface and ground water sampling
  • Soil sampling 
  • Assessment of any landowner impacts
  • Cleaning structures, roads, and vehicles

We will communicate our findings upon completion of our investigation.

People impacted by this event should contact the Bishop Well Incident claims line at 877-359-1285. Livestock owners are urged to contact their veterinarian to evaluate and monitor their animals.
