Senate Bill 25-276: Protect Civil Rights Immigration Status

Written by Scott James

Colorado Senate Bill 25-276 turns our state into a dangerous sanctuary for illegal immigration. It ties the hands of police, endangers communities, and openly defies federal law. Governor Polis must veto this reckless legislation before it sacrifices public safety for radical political pandering. Stand for the rule of law!

Senate Bill 25-276 is yet another radical overreach from the Colorado General Assembly. It prohibits state and local government employees, including police and jail officials, from cooperating with federal immigration authorities unless there is a federal warrant.

This bill:

  • Bans law enforcement officers from honoring civil immigration detainers, even after a suspect posts bond.
  • Prohibits jails from holding individuals for immigration enforcement purposes, accelerating the release of illegal immigrants into Colorado communities.
  • Extends privacy protections to illegal immigrants, tying the hands of public institutions—like schools, hospitals, and libraries—from sharing information with immigration authorities.
  • Empowers illegal immigrants to sue public employees who dare to comply with federal immigration laws.
  • Guts local cooperation with federal law enforcement, making Colorado a de facto sanctuary state.

This bill is a slap in the face to the rule of law, public safety, and common sense.

My Thoughts on the Bill

Let’s call this what it is: Senate Bill 25-276 turns Colorado into a lawless sanctuary for illegal immigration. It undermines federal law, jeopardizes public safety, and rewards law-breaking while tying the hands of local officials who swore an oath to uphold the law.

This bill is not about civil rights—it’s about political pandering to the radical open-borders crowd at the expense of every law-abiding citizen.

Why SB25-276 Must Be Stopped

Jeopardizes Public Safety – Criminal aliens will be released back onto our streets because jails can’t cooperate with ICE.

Encourages Lawlessness – Illegal immigrants gain more protections than U.S. citizens under this bill.

Ties Law Enforcement’s Hands – Peace officers can no longer assist federal authorities without risking lawsuits.

Defies the Rule of Law – States can’t just pick and choose which federal laws they want to follow.

Enough is Enough: Stand Up for the Rule of Law!

We cannot allow Colorado to become a lawless sanctuary where criminals are protected and law-abiding citizens are endangered.

📢 Tell Governor Polis: VETO SB25-276! Protect public safety. Respect the rule of law. Stand with Colorado families.
