In recognition of National Public Health Week, the Weld County Board of Commissioners read a proclamation honoring the exceptional contributions of the Weld County Department of Public Health and Environment (WCDPHE) in safeguarding the well-being of residents.
Weld County Commissioner chair Kevin Ross, spoke to the various WCDPHE programs that work together to address public health challenges. “You are doing an excellent job, and not just for the individuals you treat, you are helping keep everybody in Weld County in a healthier place,” he said.
National Public Health Week, observed annually in the first full week in April, acknowledges the critical role of public health initiatives in promoting healthier communities and improving the quality of life for all individuals through programs that protect public health including the prevention and treatment of diseases such as tuberculosis, diabetes, and obesity as well as other programs and initiatives such as immunizations, household hazardous waste disposal, health inspections, environmental land use planning, water quality testing, and food safety.
“Many residents don’t interact directly with our department, but that doesn’t mean that they do not benefit from our programs,” said WCDPHE director Jason Chessher. “All our services are designed to protect the overall public health of our community.” Chessher went on to express his gratitude for health department staff, saying “We have an outstanding team! Thank you for choosing to work for Weld County.”
