BOARD NAMES NINE MEMBERS TO REDISTRICTING COMMITTEE

Written by Team James

Weld County appoints a balanced redistricting committee of nine residents to draft new commissioner district maps by July 30, 2025.

During Wednesday’s board meeting, Weld County Commissioners appointed nine Weld County residents to the county’s redistricting advisory committee. The committee, made up of three Republicans, three Democrats, and three Unaffiliated/Third Party voters, will be charged with developing three commissioner district maps for the board to review and approve by July 30, 2025.

The members of the Redistricting Advisory Committee include:

  • Julie Cozad, Milliken, Republican
  • Zoe Hubbard, Fort Lupton, Unaffiliated/Third-Party
  • Dawn Kafes, Frederick, Democratic
  • Dave Long, New Raymer, Republican
  • Lane Mattox, Greeley, Unaffiliated/Third-Party
  • Adrienne Sandoval, Platteville, Republican
  • Sonny Subia, Greeley, Democratic
  • Stacy Suniga, Greeley, Democratic
  • Brandon Wark, Greeley, Unaffiliated/Third-Party

Redistricting is the process of reviewing county commissioner district boundaries to ensure they comply with state law and the Weld County Home Rule Charter. Under Colorado Revised Statute (30-10-306.7) boundaries for county commissioner districts must be redrawn based on data from the most recent United States Census. The redistricting advisory committee is charged with creating district boundaries for consideration and approval of the redistricting commission (the Board of Weld County Commissioners).

The advisory committee will determine the time and frequency of their meetings, which will be listed on the redistricting webpage. All working meetings of the redistricting advisory committee are open meetings, which the public may attend in person or virtually. Weld County residents may submit comments about the redistricting process at these meetings or via a digital comment form at any time. All comments submitted are public and will be posted on the public comments page for residents to view.

The advisory committee will present three maps to the commission in a public hearing on June 30. Three additional public hearings (in-person with virtual options) will be held July 9, July 16 and July 3 before a final decision and adoption of the official map is made.
