All the conversations about transportation, agriculture, energy, fiscal responsibility, and transparency are a moot point unless we begin with a conversation about public safety. It is the most basic role of government – citizens must feel and be safe in their persons and property to truly pursue happiness.
Weld County’s geographic size combined with the rural nature of much of our jurisdiction provides for unique public safety challenges. The Weld County Sheriff’s Office is tasked with both patrol of a jurisdiction that covers nearly 4,000 square miles and detention in a jail facility capable of holding up to 850 inmates. I believe Sheriff Reams and his staff do a superior job.
My confidence in these law enforcement professionals is unequivocal and I believe that their reasonable requests should be fully funded.
In Weld County, We Back the Blue
Under the Polis administration, the Colorado legislature has produced laws that are fully harmful to public safety and crime rates in Colorado have sky-rocketed as a direct result of this poorly thought out legislation.
I will do what is #RightForWeld to fully fund and support the Weld County Sheriff’s Office. I will continue to lift my voice in Weld County and at the state capitol against bad legislative ideas and for efforts and ideas that will better train officers, better recruit and retain officers, bring down the crime rate, and bring safety to our neighborhoods.
