The Weld County Board of Commissioners has proclaimed the month of November as Adoption Month in Weld County, recognizing the importance of providing children and youth with permanent, safe, and loving families through adoption. This month helps raise awareness about adoption and its crucial role in supporting children and youth in Weld County, while also honoring the journeys of those waiting for their forever family and those who become adoptive parents.
So far this year, 16 children and youth have been adopted in Weld County. On Nov. 22, in celebration of National Adoption Day, the Weld County Department of Human Services (WCDHS) will help finalize 12 adoptions in person at the Weld County Courthouse. This marks 24 years of celebrating both National Adoption Day and Adoption Month.
“As an adoptive father myself, I know that adoption is how you fill the kid-sized hole in your heart,” explained Commissioner Scott James. “I am deeply passionate about the family being the fundamental building block of our society, where parents and children pursue happiness and the American Dream together. I cannot thank our adoptive parents enough, as well as the staff who help facilitate the process and make these families whole. I truly appreciate it.”
WCDHS’s Post Adoption Support, known as Family Forever, along with Foster Care services, strives to provide families with a safe space to receive support, obtain resources and strengthen their adoptive families. They also offer education about the foster care and adoption processes. Families who have adopted children and live in Weld County, as well as those who have adopted through the Weld County Child Welfare system but live elsewhere, have access to the Family Forever program.
