Colorado Legislature The Bully Pulpit

House Bill 25-1238: Gun Show Requirements

Written by Scott James

House Bill 25-1238 is a blatant attack on gun shows and private firearm sales, imposing costly regulations designed to kill the industry. Gun shows aren’t the problem—soft-on-crime policies are. Tell your legislators to VOTE NO on HB 25-1238 and defend the Second Amendment!

House Bill 25-1238 is an outright attack on lawful gun owners, gun show promoters, and small firearms businesses in Colorado. This bill:

  • Imposes burdensome new regulations on gun shows, forcing promoters to submit security plans, implement costly surveillance, and comply with excessive liability insurance requirements.
  • Bans private vendors from selling firearms at gun shows unless they have a federal firearms license and a state firearms dealer permit—effectively eliminating private sales at gun shows.
  • Forces promoters to verify compliance with Colorado’s three-day waiting period, even though that responsibility already falls on the licensed firearms dealer.
  • Prohibits anyone under 21 from attending a gun show unless accompanied by a parent or guardian, despite 18-year-olds being legally able to purchase rifles and serve in the military.

This isn’t about safety. It’s about shutting down gun shows in Colorado through overregulation and bureaucratic red tape.

My Thoughts on the Bill

This bill is nothing more than an underhanded attempt to regulate gun shows out of existence. Instead of addressing actual violent crime, Colorado Democrats are targeting law-abiding gun owners and small business vendors.

Let’s be clear: Gun shows are NOT the problem. The problem is soft-on-crime policies that let violent criminals walk free while law-abiding citizens are treated like suspects.

Why HB 25-1238 Must Be Stopped

Backdoor Gun Control – The radical left knows they can’t ban gun shows outright, so they’re trying to strangle them with costly regulations.

Crushing Small Businesses – This bill kills local vendors and private sellers who rely on gun shows to support their businesses.

Unconstitutional Restrictions on Private Sales – Private gun sales are legal under federal and state law. HB 25-1238 makes it nearly impossible for private collectors and sellers to operate.

Burdens Responsible Gun Owners – If an 18-year-old can serve in the military, they should be able to walk into a gun show without a chaperone.

Protect Gun Shows, Protect Freedom!

This is yet another thinly veiled attack on the Second Amendment by politicians who don’t understand firearms and don’t care about your rights.

📢 Tell your legislators to VOTE NO on HB 25-1238! Gun shows are part of American freedom—and they’re not going anywhere.
